Georgia W. Barkers, EdD, MBA, MHA, BSN, RN-BC, NEA-BC
Dr. Barkers has been a registered nurse for over 46 years. She retired from the Army Nurse Corps, as a Lieutenant Colonel and from the Atlanta Veteran Affairs Medical Center, where she served as Associate Nurse Executive for Education. She was President/CEO of a healthcare training and consulting firm for 14 years, prior to working with the VA Medical Center.
Dr. Barkers earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan; a Master’s in Business Administration and Master’s in Health Administration from Georgia State University, and a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from the University of Sarasota. She also earned a paralegal certification from the National Center for Paralegal Training, has Board certifications in Nurse Executive Advanced, Nursing Professional Development, Life Coaching, and she is a certified VitalSmarts trainer for Crucial Conversations.
Dr. Barkers is a wife, mother of three, and has five grandchildren. Through the years she has been an active volunteer in her community and in professional organizations. Currently, she is Vice-Chair of the DeKalb County Hospital Authority and Past President of the Georgia Nurses Foundation.
Dr. Barkers writes and speaks under the name of “The Attitude Nurse.” Her goal is to support others with inspiration, motivation and tools to achieve their life goals.
